Largest markets
By the end of 2017, 35 per cent of the world's total wind power capacity was installed in China. In second place, the USA accounted for 17 per cent of the world's cumulative capacity.

New installed capacity in 2017
China is a clear leader in the statistics over new installations with more than 19.5 GW of new capacity, accounting for just under half of all new installed capacity in 2017.

The development since 2001
The global market growth saw a decline of approx. 3.7 per cent in 2017 compared to the previous year. A total of 52.6 GW was installed, which is lower than the 54.6 GW installed in 2016. 

Looking at the total installed capacity of 539.6 GW by the end of 2017, it was an increase of approx. 10.6 per cent in relation to total capacity in 2016.
