A wind turbine tower is like a long pole.
The tower has to be very strong to resist the large pressure put on it by the wind blowing on the rotor.

Find a pole that is one metre long and hold in the same way as the boy on the drawing does.
Ask a classmate to put a pressure on the pole right above your hand – can you keep the pole in a vertical position? Let your classmate put a pressure on the top end of the pole – how does holding the pole feel now?

The rotor of a wind turbine pulls very hard at the tower when the wind is strong.
