A2SEA A/S
Taking wind power offshore
Our company was formed in 2000 in response to a market requirement to install 80 offshore wind turbines at Horns Rev, Denmark in a safe and efficient manner. The two crane vessels that were constructed to work this project were so successful that A2SEA is now the market leader in this field, having gone on to install more than 250 offshore wind turbines in the world since that time. Further projects have been undertaken in the UK, Denmark and most recently in the Netherlands .
Leading edge technology introduced into the harsh offshore environment will occasionally cause faults that may require replacement or repair. Replacing major components such as blades, generators or gear boxes generally requires the use of a crane vessel and A2SEA’s self-propelled, shallow-drafted vessels have proved ideal for this work.
In addition to our core activities, A2SEA also carries out heavy lift transport work as, with a lifting capacity of up to 280 tonnes and plenty of open deck space, the SEA ENERGY and SEA POWER are developing a reputation as flexible transport vessels for specialist heavy lift sea transport. The combination of a very large crane on an ocean going vessel is ideal for cargos where the use of shore cranes and coasters has proven to be impractical or uneconomic.
With a shallow draft and the ability to 'self moor' by lowering the jack up legs, the vessels often provide unique solutions at small, remote harbours and quays. Harbour and jetty maintenance and upgrades are thus another area in where our vessels are used successfully. Furthermore, A2SEA’s vessels are well suited to the installation of offshore meteorological masts and in some cases can provide a full turnkey solution, including foundations.
A2SEA's vessels have been identified by offshore survey companies as useful platforms from which to carry out some offshore survey operations. The ability to create a stable offshore platform and move from location to location very quickly means the vessels can be used to perform geotechnical operations. The charter of the vessels for offshore survey work is a new development and customers are still exploring what other operations they can be used for.
