Denmark as showroom for new wind power technology
If Denmark is to maintain and attract new wind power corporations in the future, it is a fundamental prerequisite that the home market environment is beneficial.
Therefore, the Danish Wind Industry Association recommends that the government plans a strategy for how to make Denmark a leading international showroom for new wind power technology.
“In many years Denmark has been a valuable showroom for the newest technology within the wind energy field. However, in recent years, the erection of new onshore turbines has stalled and the industry is facing difficulties testing and demonstrating new wind turbine models in Denmark. This obstructs the development – who would buy turbines from a country, who does not themselves have any erected?”, asks Bjarne Lundager Jensen, managing director of the Danish Wind Industry Association.
The recommendation of a showroom is just one of five that the Danish Wind Industry Association presents in association with the IT-industry and the Danish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry through the new cooperation – “Knowledge Industries in growth”.
The three industries have all learned to handle the challenges and opportunities that the globalisation provides. Amongst others, this means that the three knowledge industries today are accountable for 20 percent of the aggregate Danish export, and that they are financing about half the private research and development in Denmark.
Denmarkhas traditionally had a strong position within knowledge and a highly skilled workforce for the above mentioned three fields. Consequently, Denmark has not only achieved maintaining its businesses in the country, but also attracting foreign ones.
If Demark is to continuously be a competence centre for the three industries and enjoy the industries’ growth and strengths, it requires a goal-directed effort and a close collaboration between the public and the private sector.
Recommendations and the three industries’ common visions for the globalisation debate were presented on a conference in Copenhagen on the 8th of August.
