Danish opinions
The media often gives the impression that many Danes are opposed to wind turbines. But the press often chooses the conflict angle to a story and this gives a misleading impression.
In the public debate on where to place new turbines, the frontlines are unmistakably established and the opponents are very active. Readers’ contributions to the debate sections are often about uncertainty and imaginations of potential inconveniences. The overall impression the debate leaves is therefore “not in my backyard”.
Meanwhile, all investigations show, that neighbours to wind turbines are the most positive when it comes to placing new wind turbines in their local area and opposing arguments are almost never about the existing 5,000 turbines in Denmark. But you have to read between the lines in the debate to detect this.
This and much more, is confirmed by the latest opinion poll conducted by ACNielsen for the Danish Wind Industry Association. The investigation is based on 1,508 online interviews of people from 15 years and above in February 2006.
On the following pages you will find an extract of the questions asked in the poll. See how the Danes fell about wind power.
